About Us

Nixon Hire is the trading name of John Nixon Ltd, a leading provider of plant, tools, accommodation units, portable toilets and site equipment to hire with an ever expanding network of depots throughout England, Scotland and more recently the Middle East.

Founded in 1967, we draw on over 49 years of experience to deliver quality plant, tools, machinery, accommodation and portable toilet products and services that are second to none, from our large headquarters in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and via our well established depot network. We are passionate about what we do and work tirelessly to ensure we are continually improving.

Our Products

With over 440 product ranges and 15,000 assets available, Nixon Hire offer you a wide variety of items to hire from us. However, if we don’t have the item in stock, we have a dedicated rehire team on hand to help.

Our Prices

We offer competitive prices and value for money. We also offer our customers the opportunity to benefit from lower prices as they commit to spend more money with us.

Hire Charge Calculations

Unless stated otherwise on our price list or quote, our hire charges are calculated as follows:

Percentage of weekly rate

Day 1:           60%

Day 2:           75%

Day 3:           85%

Day 4:           95%

Day 5, 6 & 7: Weekly rate

Thereafter each day is charged at 20% of the weekly rate. Minimum hire periods apply to certain items.

Reliable & Modern Equipment

The average age of our equipment is 2.7 years which means it offers increased reliability and suffers fewer breakdowns. However, things can go wrong so our equipment is supported by a responsive breakdown team. Our equipment is also subject to a comprehensive maintenance programme to ensure it is ready for hire.

Our Depot Network

We have a nationwide Depot network and we can provide the equipment you need at a local level - wecan also transfer the equipment from Depot to Depot to get it to you when you need it. It means we employ local people, have relevant local knowledge and can offer competitive transport costs.

We only purchase equipment from market leading manufacturers so you can be assured the product you hire from us is modern and complete with the latest technology and safety features.

Available upon request, Nixon Track allows large plant items to be tracked. This service is chargeable.

Our Commitment to Safety

Safety is a key priority throughout the business whether we are considering customers, suppliers, colleagues or members of the general public. We apply rigorous safety standards to all of our company operations. We supply important safety information with each piece of equipment which is hired and have produced a series of safety videos for customers to assist in the safe operation of plant.


All equipment is tested and cleaned prior to every hire to ensure it operates at peak operating performance. A full tank of fuel is supplied with all petrol or diesel powered equipment. LOLER reports are issued with all applicable machines. All electrical tools are PAT tested prior to every hire and we carry out electrical inspections to NICEIC standards on all hire fleet cabins. We have a comprehensive on-site preventative maintenance programme in place for our large plant and respond to breakdowns promptly.

Delivery and Collection

We operate a large in house haulage fleet which means our modern delivery vehicles can deliver the equipment you need when you need it. When you are ready to off hire, we can ensure a prompt collection and return the kit to any Nixon Hire Depot. Charges apply for delivery and collection.


With one of the most modern hire fleets in the industry, we continue to invest heavily in latest models with lowest emissions to meet current legislation thus reducing our carbon footprint.

Items highlighted throughout this catalogue feature latest engines which in turn will allow you to reduce your carbon footprint.

Throughout our day to day operations, we are fully committed to reducing waste and minimising our carbon footprint. We have pioneered the use of water based painting options and have removed harmful chemicals from our workshops amongst many other initiatives. We recently achieved 100% compliance across all of our depots via Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS).

ISO Accreditation

We are fully accredited to ISO 9001 international quality standard across all of our Depots and have achieved ISO 14001 across half of our Depots so far. We audit our systems and processes regularly to ensure our service is consistent across all areas of our business.
