Charity rubber duck race on the River Tweed!
16 July 2013
On Saturday 13th July, our Berwick Depot held a rubber duck race on the River Tweed which was a fantastic success!
The beautiful weather brought spectators and supporters but and most importantly we had a grand total of 320 duck which were sponsored to race.
Each duck was given a number and the RNLI lifeboat team kindly assisted by taking the ducks up to the start line at the Royal Border Bridge. Whilst the ducks got off to a bit of a slow start, the breeze carried the leaders out front to victory - 3 boats from the rowing club ushered the ducks into a channel to make sure none washed up on land. The slow ducks at the back made a final burst for the finishing line but could not quite make up the distance!
We offered £100 1st, £50 2nd & £20 3rd prized places.
Number 135 came in first, sponsored by Lee Mark from Berwick Cricket Club
Number 83 came 2nd, sponsored by Susan Wakenshaw of the Brown Bear Pub,
Number 302 came 3rd, sponsored by Mrs Davidson of Border Engines
We raised a grand total of £1,600 for Cancer Research UK and we would like to thank all of our customers, suppliers and staff who helped make the day such a success and raise a fantastic amount of money for Cancer Research UK.
