A team of employees from Nixon Hire have spent three days taking on a series of challenges around Kielder Water & Forest Park in Northumberland to raise funds for The Calvert Trust in Kielder, named The Kielder Triathlon Challenge.

The gruelling three day event included a 27 mile cycle, a 27 mile walk and a 2 mile kayak in the beautiful surroundings of Kielder Water & Forest Park over the weekend of 7th to 9th September 2012.

Staff from several Nixon Hire depots stretching as far afield as Aberdeen, Glasgow and Wakefield attended the event. This is the second year that Nixon Hire have organised a major charity event. Last years event, The 2011 Hadrians Wall Challenge, raised £11,200 for The Teenage Cancer Trust.

Chris Nixon, Joint Managing Director, Nixon Hire said:

“As a rapidly expanding family company continues to grow it is all too easy to get caught up in the day to day running of the business. An integral part of our vision, as we look towards the year 2020, is that we harness the power of everyone within the company to help those who are less fortunate. We have set targets to raise £10,000 per year, rising to £15,000 by 2015 and £20,000 by 2020, through fundraising activity.

This year we have chosen Calvert Trust Kielder as our charity partner. Calvert Trust Kielder provides outstanding facilities to allow people with disabilities to develop their confidence and ability in a structured and secure environment. We are impressed with the charities’ commitment to building confidence and providing memories for children and adults together with their families, carers and friends. We are delighted to focus our main fundraising event for 2012 on this fantastic charity.”

Chris added; "On behalf of all the participants to this year's event, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who donated to this year's event and assisted with logistics and planning".

The £10,000 fundraising target was comfortably exceeded with £13,600 raised in total. The money raised will pay for equipment and furnishings for a bedroom in the first of five new self-catering lodges, which will provide accessible holiday accommodation for families caring for loved ones with a disability.

Peter Cockerill, CEO, Calvert Trust Kielder said:

“Our thanks go out to Chris and his team for choosing to support us. I would like to congratulate everyone who took part and completed the challenge, we are truly grateful for all of your fundraising efforts. We would not be able to continue to provide life changing experiences to our guests with the support from local businesses like Nixon Hire.”
