Making a positive difference.

As a family company, we understand that the collective energy, drive and enthusiasm of our people can have a positive impact on the wider community.

Our chosen charity for the past few years has been Cancer Research UK.
We work closely with one main chosen charity throughout each year to do as much as we can to raise money as well as awareness for the important causes we support.

The Lighthouse Club
As a key supplier to the construction industry, we support this registered charity which provides assistance to the families of ill or injured construction workers.
Yorkshire Aid Convoy
This small charity runs an annual aid convoy to either Romania or the Ukraine where thousands of families live in severe poverty, battling daily against lack of food, clothing, medication, education and employment. The annual convoy travels 4,000 km to deliver much needed basic humanitarian aid which is in turn donated by partner sponsors.

Supporting your causes....

In addition to our fundraising events, we also support many registered charities each year by offering discounted prices on hire products including, plant, tools, site accommodation and portable toilets when supplied to charity events. If you are arranging a charitable event, simply confirm your registered charity number when making a booking to receive your discount.

Our Fundraising Activities!

2016 saw yet more running and cycling in aid of Cancer Research UK!

As well as taking part once more in the Cancer Research Race For Life, in August 2016 some keen Nixon Hire staff took on the grueling 160 mile Coast and Castles cycle challenge!

Over 3 days our tireless team cycled through rain, rain and more rain (and a bit more rain!) all the way from Edinburgh Castle to Tynemouth Castle and Priory. They raised a fantastic amount - nearly  £600!
In 2015 we decided to take a break from any company driven fundraising activities as we had lent on our friends, family, colleagues and suppliers heavily over the last few years to help us raise in excess of £100,000 for Cancer Research UK.

For example, in 2014 we held a large charity ball which we knew people had donated very generously to, both in terms of time and monetary contributions.

That said, a number of employees undertook challenges which they organised themselves, still in aid of Cancer Research UK.

In  August a small team of staff from our Central Support Office and Newcastle Depot took on the famous 140 mile Coast to Coast cycle challenge from Whitehaven to Tynemouth in 3 days, raising an impressive figure of just under £1000!

Also undertaken by Nixon Hire staff in aid of this worthwhile cause in 2015 was the Cancer Research UK 10k Race For Life and a charity motorbike ride.

2014 Lab Tour
In September 2014 Chris Nixon was given the opportunity to undertake a lab tour at the Northern Institute for Cancer Research in Newcastle. Cancer Research UK are keen for people to take these  tours so that they can see for themselves how  donations help provide the practical tools they need to continue their important work.
Whilst at the lab, Nixon Hire were presented with a Special Commendation Award - 'Corporate Community Supporter of the Year', an award previously held by large PLC companies  such as Sage and Wilkinson. The award recognises the significant fundraising activity undertaken by the company, which has raised over £100k to date.
2013 Charity Excavator
We started our 2013 corporate fundraising activities at the Plantworx exhibition in Coventry on the 14th May, where we unveiled a very unique Volvo EC55C excavator. The excavator was painted bright white and carried the Cancer Research UK branding. It was placed on the Volvo stand for the duration of the  exhibition with staff available on hand to collect donations. Following Plantworx, the machine was made available for Nixon Hire customers to hire, with  ALL the revenue going towards the fundraising target. We were delighted that Kilmac then committed to hiring the charity excavator for the whole year.

2013 Charity Rubber Duck Race

On 13th July our Berwick Depot held a rubber duck race on the River Tweed, with 320 ducks sponsored to race. We raised a grand total of £1600 for Cancer Research UK.

2013 The Ben Nevis Charity Challenge

On 21st September a 30 strong team braved the 4409 ft of the highest mountain in the British Isles, Ben Nevis. With the help of our extremely generous  supporters we managed to raise circa £10k for Cancer Research UK.

2012 Kielder Triathlon

In early 2012, we asked customers and staff to vote from a shortlist of charity challenges via our Facebook site. The winning vote was a gruelling triathlon around the biggest man-made lake in northern Europe. Between 7th and 9th of September 2012, 26 Nixon Hire staff completed a 27 mile cycle, 27 mile walk and 2 mile kayak at Kielder all in aid of the Calvert Trust.
2011 Hadrian's Wall Challenge
In July 2011, we raised over £11,000 towards the Teenage Cancer Trust via our Hadrian’s Wall Challenge. 28 staff walked 48 miles across Hadrian’s  Wall in Northumberland over two and a half days. The team were tested to their limits with both the steep gradients and atrocious weather putting will and determination to the test. The Teenage Cancer Trust is currently updating specialist teenage cancer units in many of the major cities in the North of England and Scotland. Visit the Teenage Cancer Trust website here.
